Composing today and notation in the past was always a form of recording, and now with so many ways to record sound, it has become a less used format, however, a problem comes in when translating a recording then back to the stage or ensemble. With this unique course we intertwine both ancient forms of notation and modern graphic notation styles from around the globe, adding group led new concepts to the curriculum. Students are led in improvisation while working with musicians, learning while coming up with their own structured improvisation graphics and developing extended techniques for organizing sound and translating to other musicians, ranging from live acoustic to electronic and more., until at the end an album is produced.
