Geared towards musicians, composers, producers and visual artists looking to develop productions, performances and conceptual works from improvisations. Using ensemble players, graphic notation, electronics and advanced recording techniques for layering and achieving high quality productions for modern composers, sound and performing artists.
Composing today and notation in the past was always a form of recording, and now with so many ways to record sound, it has become a less used format, but how does one translate a recording back to the stage or ensemble? With this comes opportunities to innovate and explore ideas from ancient forms of writing language and modern graphic notation styles from around the globe. Students are led in improvisation while working with musicians, learning while also coming up with their own structured scores, developing extended techniques for organizing sound and translating to other musicians, ranging from live acoustic to electronic and more., until at the end an album is produced from the recordings.
Please note that no prior knowledge of traditional notation is required, all levels are welcome. This is an experimental composition course tailored to the individual artist or artists enrolled.
